The Formula One season is FINALLY set to get underway in July it seems as Austria are prepared to host the opening races.
Reports suggest that Austria’s government has approved the hosting of Formula 1’s season-opening races scheduled for July.
The races are set to go ahead on July 5 and 12 respectively and will be taking place behind the security of a closed-door environment, held at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg.
Originally, the 2020 season was due to start in Australia back in March, however, the outbreak of coronavirus forced the world into a pandemic and, as a result, the postponement of the first race and a further nine more to follow.
Providing the races in Austria are successful and deemed safe with minimal risk factors harbouring harm to the people needed to crew the events, the F1 season could likely continue on July 19 in Budapest, Hungary.
There are obvious risk assessments and requirements needed to be met to convince officials of a season restart going forward, but it is one tentative step at a time, meaning great reward, but a lot of risk.
A deal has also been agreed by Silverstone for two Grand Prix tournaments to be held at the British track in August.
F1 bosses are working tirelessly in their efforts to devise a revised calendar for this season’s races, keeping in mind all of the uncertainties that lay ahead.
The world is slowly seeing light at the end of tunnel with regards to coronavirus, but like many sporting institutions around the world, nothing is set in stone, and new ground must be tread with caution.
Despite the lack of races due to the pandemic, Formula 1 has still had some big news over the past couple of months.
Sebastian Vettel will leave Ferrari at the end of his current contract and will be replaced by Carlos Sainz, whilst Daniel Ricciardo's stay at Renault will be a short one as he joins up with McLaren.
