Monday 1 June marked exactly one year since Liverpool triumphed over Tottenham in Madrid, claiming their sixth European title and avenging the heartbreak in Kiev a year prior.

Of course, Virgil van Dijk participated in both fixtures, having joined the club in January 2018, transforming the Reds' defence into one of the best in Europe.

The 28 year-old has lost just five Premier League matches since he swapped Southampton for Merseyside, and it's no surprise he became an immediate fan favourite after downing Everton with a dramatic debut goal in the FA Cup.

Anfield has rattled off its fair share of iconic songs for its favourite heroes, but few are better than their hit for van Dijk, which follows the tune of The Pogues' 'Dirty Old Town'.

Following the 2-0 win over Spurs 12 months ago, the defender was shown footage from the fan zone in Madrid, and his reaction to the clip will surely bring a smile to the face of every Reds supporter.

"What a song, what a video," the Netherlands skipper says as he watches in awe, revealing he couldn't sleep after first seeing the clip. "I'm very proud to get that song."

The Reds were unable to retain the Champions League trophy this season, however, after being knocked out by Atletico Madrid in dramatic fashion in March, just a week before the football season was suspended across Europe.

The Premier League will be returning on June 17, though, with Liverpool requiring just two wins to win their first Premier League title.

Unfortunately, memorable moments like that one may be few and far between as football adjusts to a new age without fans on the frontline, and while we don't know when the sport will truly get back to normal, Reds fans certainly won't tire of seeing that footage in the meantime.
