Arsenal star backs fans' efforts to get Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to stay

Alexandre Lacazette has backed the Arsenal supporters in their efforts to convince Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to stay at the club.

Speculation has been building about the striker's long-term plans with the Gabon international having just one year remaining on his contract in North London.

Reports had suggested that a new deal had been offered to the striker, but according to ESPN, that is not thought to be the case.

This summer represents the last realistic chance for the Gunners to attract a substantial fee for the frontman, however it's no surprise that supporters are still hoping that he will agree to extend his stay at the Emirates Stadium.

Fans have been taking to social media to convince him to pen a new deal, with one fan account attracting the backing of Aubameyang's strike partner, Alexandre Lacazette.

The Frenchman was seen to have liked the post by AFC.Talk, which said: "Don't let us know @Aubameyang97, sign the thing!"

Whether the backing of his compatriot will be enough to convince him to stay remains to be seen, but if anyone can convince Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to stick around it's Alexandre Lacazette.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

This could be a heartbreaking summer for many Arsenal fans.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is a hugely popular figure in North London due to his impressive goalscoring record since arriving at the club.

There's no question that the Gabon international deserves to be playing in the Champions League, and with the Gunners unlikely to be able to offer him that, it seems that the writing is on the wall.

With his contract due to expire next summer it makes financial sense to move the striker on at the end of the season in order to recoup the sizeable fee that they paid for him in 2018.

That way they can look to rebuild their team accordingly, while allowing such a popular figure to have one last chance at Europe's elite competition.
