Spurs give Danny Rose green light to stay at Newcastle

Danny Rose

Tottenham Hotspur have given Danny Rose the nod to remain at Newcastle United for the remainder of the season, per Football Insider

The England international was sent to St James' Park on loan in the January transfer window after failing to break into Jose Mourinho's plans in north London.

Indeed, Rose made just three Premier League appearances under the Portuguese, per Transfermarkt, playing 15 minutes against West Ham United, 16 against Chelsea, and 69 against Liverpool.

In six games in the top-flight, Rose was left out of the squad completely prior to his move to Newcastle; since heading north he has played five times in the league under Steve Bruce, though he has only been on the winning side in the league once, against Southampton.

Football Insider reports that Spurs boss Mourinho has given Rose is blessing to remain with the Magpies, despite his loan being set to expire at the end of next month.

Project Restart will see the Premier League return on June 17 and it will continue until the end of July; Rose will thus be allowed to see out the season on Tyneside.

The report also claims, though, that Rose will likely be sold this summer, given that he has just a year left on his Spurs deal.

It remains to be seen if Newcastle will enter the bidding.

GIVEMESPORT'S Harry Sherlock says...

Rose doesn't have a future at Spurs, that much is clear.

The club signed Ryan Sessegnon last summer and they also have Ben Davies who can play at left-back; the need for Rose, then, has diminished exponentially.

As a result, letting him see out the season with Newcastle could potentially be seen as an audition. If he impresses, there is every chance the Magpies will be in the queue of clubs looking to sign him permanently in the next transfer window, whenever it may open.

Mourinho is making a sensible choice here, then, and should be applauded.

Rose will be able to keep playing and could put himself in the shop window as a result; it's a no-brainer.
