Conor McGregor set rumours swirling around his UFC future after a social media post showed that he had significantly bulked-up.

McGregor, 31, hasn’t fought inside the Octagon since January, when he defeated Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone inside 40 seconds in the welterweight division.

His supporters have now been forced to consider that Notorious may well simply stay at welterweight, especially after the image emerged online.

Some instantly took to Instagram to categorise him as a welterweight, one stating: “170lb champ soon,” with another confirming McGregor was “proper 170.”

Others aren’t convinced, even going so far as to say he’s around the 155lb mark. The only way we’ll know for sure is when his next fight is booked and he steps on those weighing scales.

McGregor’s promise earlier on in the year of fighting three times inside the Octagon has been curtailed somewhat by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. However, his momentum doesn’t seem to have stopped one bit.

With travel now opened up to the States, UFC chief Dana White has revealed the 31-year-old Irishman is now available to compete on ‘Fight Island,’ which is set for its debut on June 17.

McGregor has freely changed weights throughout his MMA career. He was at featherweight for his marquee knockout win over Jose Aldo in 2015, before making lightweight and welterweight in the subsequent year.

He was at his heaviest for his January bout against Cerrone, weighing in at 170lb for the fight.

There looked to be a plan set in motion, by the UFC anyway, for McGregor to return to the lightweight division and fight Khabib Nurmagomedov.

McGregor isn’t short of offers, however. He has been offered a title shot at welterweight level from Kamaru Usman and has even faced a challenge from Anderson Silva.

Dana White’s preference, after the lightweight division is unified in September between Justin Gaethje and Khabib, is for Conor to fight the winner.

Speaking on Eddie Hearn and Tony Bellew’s podcast, White stated: "I think the best thing for him, I'm not saying this is what's going to happen, but in my opinion, he lets this Gaethje-Khabib fight play out and he fights the winner.

"I think that's the smartest move for him. But, you know him, maybe he wants to fight before that and if he does, we can figure something out.

"I think that is the move for him right now."
