George Floyd’s family have revealed that Floyd Mayweather has donated money for funeral and several services nationwide in the memory of the murdered American.

George Floyd was killed by police officers, including Minneapolis Police Department officer Derek Chauvin, in Minnesota on May 25.

Protests under the banner of #BlackLivesMatter have taken place not only in Minnesota but in all 50 States across America and in dozens of countries.

Many people and organisations on social media participated in Blackout Tuesday, to allow black voices to be heard.

A number of Premier League clubs have taken a knee in solidarity, across several social media posts.

Members of George Floyd’s family have taken to social media in order to express their gratitude to the former boxer.

They confirmed that Mayweather donated $88,000 and is to cover his funeral and two additional services, one in Minnesota and the other in North Carolina.

The philanthropy that has stemmed from the George Floyd protests around the world has been a silver lining in an incredibly dark, tumultuous cloud.

People from all over the world have donated to funds, securing bail money for those arrested at #BlackLivesMatter protests.

The outpouring of grief hasn’t stopped at the rich and famous, however.

John Boyega led a protest in Hyde Park earlier this week, delivering a poignant message to the thousands in attendance.

Sports stars have used their platform for good, with Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram taking a knee in the Bundesliga on Sunday.

Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho and Achraf Hakimi also displayed messages, begging for justice, on their shirts in their match with Paderborn later on the Sunday.

The CEO of Mayweather Promotions Leonard Ellerbe has confirmed Mayweather’s donation to be true, with the former boxer keeping in contact with the bereaved family.

In an interview with ESPN on Monday, Ellerbe stated: “He’ll probably get mad at me for saying that, but yes, he is definitely paying for the funeral.”

Ellerbe stated that the funeral for George Floyd will take place on June 9 in his home town of Houston.

TMZ had reported Mayweather’s offer has extended for services to be held in Minnesota, where George Floyd was murdered, and in North Carolina.
