Many believe Lionel Messi is the greatest player to have ever played the game.

The Argentine has spent his entire career at Barcelona, winning everything there is to win at club level.

His goalscoring record is, quite frankly, crazy.

Messi has notched 627 goals in 718 appearances and, for the past decade, has averaged a goal per game.

But Messi is far more than just a goalscorer.

He’s the greatest playmaker in the history of the sport and loves making goals for his teammates almost as much as he loves scoring himself.

Messi constantly reaches double figures in assists each season and already has 16 to his name in 2019/20.

And now, a video shows Messi’s greatest all-time assists in La Liga.

Whether it’s an incredible pass through the eye of a needle or a perfectly weighted pass after a sensational run, Messi has almost every assist in his locker.

Take a look:

Amazing.

Recently, former Barcelona player Gary Lineker paid tribute to Messi in a column for BBC.

And the Match of the Day presenter highlighted his incredible passing ability as something that makes him so good.

“He’s quite possibly the best passer of the ball we have ever seen - he sees things that ordinary mortals don't. It's like he's watching the game from above while playing it at the same time, but even that doesn't do full justice to his genius,” Lineker said.

“I’ve watched many games of his at the Nou Camp covering Barcelona in the Champions League and there have been many times when I've seen him hit passes that I and the people around me did not see, and that's when we're overlooking the pitch from high up.

“To have that vision and awareness on top of everything else is what makes him incomparable as a player, and such a bewildering talent. Yes, he is a brilliant finisher too, and bends the ball into the top corner of the net regularly himself, but if there's a pass on, he'll play it if that's the right thing to do.

“He's not just unselfish, his decision-making ability is exceptional. No-one else does the things he does, the way he does them - and no-one ever has done.”

Well said, Gary.
