Bayern Munich are set to beat Manchester United and Liverpool to the signing of Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz, per The Independent.

The 20-year-old is one of the most in-demand players in Europe after a series of sparkling displays for the Bundesliga club.

This season alone, he has scored 15 goals and provided eight assists in all competitions and that has led to interest from across the continent, with both the Reds and the Red Devils expressing an interest in securing his signature.

Real Madrid were also touted as possible suitors but it now appears that he is set to move to the Bavarian giants, given the advanced nature of the talks taking place.

Leverkusen are said to have accepted that Havertz is leaving the club, though they remain keen to secure a large fee for an exceptional asset.

The Independent reports that the deal to sign the youngster, who has already won seven caps for Germany, will cost around £80 million.

GIVEMESPORT’S Harry Sherlock says…

This is a bit of a shame, really.

Bayern are currently seven points clear at the top of the Bundesliga and have won each competition since the 2012/13 campaign.

Signing Havertz, perhaps the best German player outside of their ranks, will only strengthen their stranglehold on the title that they are likely to win once again this term.

A move to United or Liverpool would have held greater intrigue for those who have seen Havertz blossom into a truly elite attacker.

He can play almost anywhere across the front three and is as prolific in front of goal as he is when it comes to creating chances.

A switch to Bayern is the easy option – he will stay in Germany and surely win trophies – and that really shouldn’t be celebrated.
