Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone introduce Black Lives Matter statement

The Black Lives Matter movement has made its way into the video game world due to the ongoing struggle for equality.

The games of choice for this movement to be advertised are ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’ and ‘NBA 2K20’.

The support for the movement in ‘Call of Duty’ is now being seen at the beginning of the multiplayer mode, including in ‘Warzone’.

“The systemic inequalities our community experiences are once again center stage. Call of Duty and Infinity Ward stand for equality and inclusion.” reads the statement.

“We stand against the racism and injustice our Black community endures. Until change happens and Black Lives Matter, we will never truly be the community we strive to be.”

This Infinity Ward pushed update to the game was announced after Activision delayed the ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’ Season 4, and the ‘Call of Duty: Mobile’ Season 7, saying that now is not the time for distractions as there are protests going on around the globe.

Infinity Ward is also planning to crack down on racist usernames, and admitted it needed to do more to handle repeat offenders.

As mentioned before, ‘Call of Duty’ was not the only game that made updates to stand with the Black Lives Matter movement.

‘NBA 2K20’ also made a stand in their game through clothing. You can customise your player in the game with different outfits, and in solidarity with this movement, you can now order a new bundle in the NBA store. The bundle comes with three shirts, which have the quotes, “Say Their Names”, “I Can’t Breath” and “Black Lives Matter.”

Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo have all come out in solidarity to the movement. However, these two games are the first time that studios have actually made in-game updates to reflect their feelings on the matter.

But, with dozens of other studios also coming out in support of the protests and condemning racism, these might not be the only in-game updates.
