WWE news: CM Punk blasts AJ Styles for his silence over racial equality issues

Punk has called out AJ Styles for his silence

Sportsmen and women across the world are showing their support for the Black Lives Matter movement amid protests and fallout from the George Floyd killing.

Many are donating money to causes that fight racial injustice, while others are using their platforms positively to raise awareness.

It's important to remember that everyone can show their support in many different ways.

CM Punk has been one of pro wrestling's biggest names to speak passionately about the current state of the world and the lack of racial equality in it.

He made a heartfelt speech during an appearance on FOX Sports' WWE Backstage programme this week, calling for white people to 'use their voice' and support the movement.

"If you're white, use your voice, protect your black brothers and sisters and protect the people that this country was not built for," he said.

"They might say it was, but everyone has a different experience. And just listen more."

On Friday night, Punk also appeared to fire shots at AJ Styles for remaining silent during this time.

CM Punk has hit out at AJ Styles for remaining quiet

"Lotta people snitching on themselves. When people tell you who they are, believe it," he tweeted.

"Might be unfortunate and disappointing if you’re a fan of that person, or if it’s your grandmother, but f*** 'em. Goodbye! (I yield my time, f*** you.)"

While that tweet wasn't aimed at Styles, a fan replied to that statement saying 'silence speaks volumes' - calling out the WWE star.

"Right!?! Silence speaks volumes. Seeing AJ Styles promote streams and s*** but couldn’t be bothered to post anything made it clear how he feels. That was a tough unfollow..."

Punk then simply replied: "Well. Come on. That one has been obvious for years," referencing his fellow wrestler's political values.

As of writing, Styles has not responded to Punk's comments or the criticism he's facing for remaining silent on the issues of racial injustice.

Some could argue that it's unfair for one person to call out another without knowing the full story, but AJ's decision to stay quiet at this time - as such a public figure - doesn't paint him in a good light.
