Birmingham central defender Martin Jiranek has put talks over his future on hold until the end of the season.

The Czech international signed a one-year deal with City when moving from Spartak Moscow in the summer. The 31-year-old has earned praise from Blues boss Alex McLeish for his performances since replacing the injured Scott Dann in mid-January, but is in no hurry to discuss his future.

"I know that my contract expires in the summer. We will see what happens," he said. "I would prefer not to discuss it at the moment because I would like to concentrate on the remaining fixtures and we still have some difficult games to play. When the season is finished, we can come back to the subject."

Jiranek missed Saturday's 2-1 home win over Bolton while recovering from a minor toe operation but has been happy with his form since Dann's hamstring setback gave him his chance.

He said: "When I arrived here, I was thinking I might start playing a little but earlier and, when I didn't, it was difficult.

"It would have been been better to have been selected in different circumstances to someone being injured (Dann) but that's life in football.

"I think I have done quite well since getting into the team."
