In a shocking turn of events, UFC star Conor McGregor has announced that he is retiring from the sport of MMA at the ripe old age of 31.
As one of the biggest names in the business, this is a massive bombshell. It's important to remember, however, McGregor has already announced his 'retirement' twice before, so perhaps take this news with a pinch of salt.
In any case, we've come up with a list of nine things which will almost definitely happen now that McGregor has 'retired' from MMA.
9. He will spend more time helping others
Despite his tough personality, McGregor has actually done a huge amount of work for various charities, especially those in his home country of Ireland. He most recently donated £860,000 to Irish hospitals to help cope with the coronavirus pandemic.
He has also used his massive social media following to promote issues such as the Black Lives Matter movement, as well as donating millions to other causes around the world.
He may well be hard as nails, but he also often shows that he's got a heart of gold.
8. He will make an appearance in WWE
For years it has been rumoured that McGregor will one day make his WWE debut. With his extreme personality and fighting background, the Irishman would fit perfectly into the role of a WWE superstar.
He certainly wouldn't be the first to make the crossover either, as fellow fighting legends like Tyson Fury and Ronda Rousey have already made the leap to professional wrestling, and even Mike Tyson recently appeared on an AEW show.
While this would definitely be quite the spectacle, McGregor already has a storied history of taking the mick out of WWE wrestlers, so perhaps he wouldn't be so welcome there. His signature strut also seems to be a dig at WWE CEO Vince McMahon, so there's clearly some bad blood between them already.
7. He will release more whiskeys
Just as you'd expect from an Irishman, McGregor sure loves his whiskey. In fact, he loves it so much that a couple of years ago, he founded a whiskey company called 'Proper No. Twelve.'
Unsurprisingly, business is going well for the new brand, and we're certain that McGregor will use this time off to work more on his other interests, such as developing a brand new whiskey to release.
6. He will try to become a movie star
Getting involved in Hollywood is almost a guarantee when you get to the status of someone like Conor McGregor.
A more permanent leap from the small to the big screen is certainly one we can see McGregor pulling off, as he's already got experience from featuring in the 2017 film 'The Notorious'.
It's easy to imagine McGregor following in the footsteps of fellow UFC stars like Randy Couture, who has managed to appear in massive films like The Expendables. McGregor would likely be even bigger.
5. He will get into trouble with the law (again)
McGregor's history with the law is certainly an interesting one. While he's never spent any real time in prison, he's certainly been quite close, and it could be said that if it weren't for his fame, he probably wouldn't have escaped from punishment so easily.
There have been at least two occasions on which McGregor has been accused of punching old men in the face, both times at a bar. He has managed to escape without any legal consequences from both episodes.
Perhaps the most famous incident was when he threw a dolly at a bus which contained Khabib Nurmagomedov, injuring several people in the process. For his efforts, he recieved five days of community service, and that's about it.
Based on his history, it would not be surprising to hear the 31-year-old get into trouble with the authorities again.
4. He will develop his fashion brand
As well as his whiskey business, McGregor has also ventured into the world of fashion.
Just one look at his Instagram account gives you an idea of the kind of styles he's into, and his taste can be summed up in one word: expensive.
His new fashion line, called August McGregor, has so far proven extremely successful, and it can surely only get bigger from here.
3. He will step back into the boxing ring
After suffering a defeat to Floyd Mayweather in what was perhaps the biggest fight in combat sport history, McGregor will surely return to a boxing ring at some point in the near future.
Whether it's to face off against Mayweather again, or to go up against other current stars, the Irishman is bound to return in an attempt to fix his record, one way or another.
2. He will break the internet by announcing his return to MMA
Based on his last two retirements, McGregor won't be gone from MMA for long.
It's almost impossible to fully trust his announcement, and surely the money for a mega-fight with an opponent like his biggest rival Nurmagomedov would be enough to reel him back in.
An announcement of his return to the sport would undoubtedly break the internet, as fans around the world will be unable to contain their excitement at the prospect of seeing at least one more fight.
1. He will fight in UFC again
Since his loss to Nurmagomedov in 2018, rumours have been flying around that McGregor will be returning for a rematch. It's not certain exactly how likely it is that this will happen, but it would certainly be a fight for the ages.
Other current MMA stars have also expressed interest in a fight with McGregor, including welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. If McGregor is able to beat him, he would become the first fighter in UFC history to have held three belts from three different weight divisions.
If the money and opponent is right, McGregor will almost definitely return to UFC for at least one more fight. Only time will tell exactly who and how much that will need to be.
