Newcastle are the only side that have shown an interest in Edinson Cavani according to FC Inter News.

The Uruguayan will be available on a free transfer but presumably would come with a hefty wage given the seismic salary he’s on at PSG.

Whether or not Newcastle’s takeover finally goes through will depend on how they can compete in the transfer market this summer, but Cavani would certainly be an eye-catching way of celebrating their potential new ownership.

Atletico Madrid previously had an interest in the striker, tabling a wage offer of €10m a year to sign him at the end of the campaign. However, that was pre-Coronavirus and since then, the Magpies have been the only interested party.

Capped 116 times at international level, the 33-year-old has been on the elite stage for a considerable period. A move to the Premier League at such a late time in his career would certainly be interesting.

Despite scoring just seven times all season, Cavani would surely be an upgrade on Joelinton who has had a woeful first campaign in English football.

Signed for £40m last summer, he’s had a barren spell that’s seen him net only once in the Premier League – that’s despite playing 29 games.

Steve Bruce’s men have been renowned for playing one of the most defensive styles in the division, amassing just 40.8% of possession on average in each match. Therefore, should Cavani sign, they’d surely need to operate in a more attacking fashion to get the most of him.

After all, he would relish the chance to connect with the lively Allan Saint-Maximin, a player who loves to dribble with the ball at his feet like PSG's very own Neymar.

Cavani may be old, but this is PSG’s all-time top scorer we’re talking about – a player with 200 goals in 301 outings for the French giants.
