Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said that Manchester United must avoid signing 'rotten apples' in the summer transfer market.
The Red Devils face a pivotal summer as they look to mount a serious challenge for the Premier League title next term.
United will be looking to add a number of new addition to Solskjaer's squad before the start of the new season with several names already being linked.
But outlining the club's plans for the summer window, the Norwegian says that the most important thing is attracting players who have the correct mentality for the club.
Speaking to the Shiv Nadar Foundation, as quoted by Sky Sports, Solskjaer said: "I did feel that I was professional and did feel privileged to play for Manchester United.
"I wouldn't be able to look at myself if I didn't know I'd given everything for my team-mates and my manager.
"That's what I also now look for in players that we sign or we bring up from the youth team. You have to have a good personality and that you are professional because rotten apples in the basket will make the others rotten.
"So for me it's about building a team that will reflect me and my coaching staff's personalities and views. Of course there are standards because we want to win. We are in the business to win.
"But the first step to be a Manchester United player and person, you have to be humble enough to know you always have to work hard. Never give in and always do your best, 100 per cent effort is required every day and don't think you are better than you are.
"You still have to play with that confidence at the same time. It's a fine balance but that is what is going to make the difference when we want to get to the championship again that we want to win."

This is a make or break summer at Old Trafford.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is at a point in his tenure when he needs to put his stamp on the Manchester United squad.
Having inherited 'rotten apples' when he took over, after this summer he'll have had plenty of time to ship some players out and replace them with the sort of player that he wants.
If United fail to compete next season then there's no excuses for Solskjaer who will have no choice but to shoulder the bulk of the blame.
He's right to urge new signings to have the correct mentality, as ultimately that's what will decide if he's still got his dream job in 12 months time.
