For a considerable period of time Liverpool would have been worried about whether they’d be able to lift the Premier League this season.

Coronavirus put the football world on hold as the Reds went into lockdown 25 points clear of their nearest rivals Manchester City. From that moment on, the null and void brigade were out but unfortunately for them, Jurgen Klopp’s men will have their chance of securing the title.

On June 17th the Premier League will return with the Premier League surely heading in the direction of Anfield if and when it finishes.

While that is becoming increasingly more likely, it remains to be seen how the pandemic will affect the summer transfer window. That hasn’t stopped rumours from circling, however, as Monday saw Liverpool linked with a few faces.

Here’s today’s round-up:

Klopp sends message to Mario Gotze

News has emerged in recent weeks that the German midfielder will leave Borussia Dortmund in the summer on a free transfer once his contract expires.

Gotze nearly joined the Reds back in 2016 but a move never materialised for the man who scored the winning goal in the 2014 World Cup final.

Having played under Klopp for Dortmund before, there is a clear respect between the two, but the Liverpool manager has now opened up on Gotze and his future.

Mario Gotze

Speaking to BILD, he said:

“It makes total sense that Mario leaves the club. I couldn't wish him more luck, to be honest. I think he is an exceptional player and also an exceptional character. I like him very much and wish him all the best.”

Although Klopp didn’t suggest a move to Liverpool would be possible, it’s very evident that he’s still fond of the 28-year-old.

Liverpool in talks to sign teenage duo

Liverpool haven’t been shy to bring through the next generation at Anfield over the last 12 months. Harvey Elliott signed for the club from Fulham while they also brought in Dutch defender Sepp van den Berg.

On top of that, they played a full team of academy players in both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup. It seems Klopp is keen to add to those achievements, and is targeting two Turkish teenagers to bolster the club’s youth ranks.

According to Turkish outlet Yeni Asur, they have held talks with second-tier club Altinordu in regards to landing 17-year-old Ravil Tagir and 16-year-old Burak Ince.

A defender and attacking midfielder respectively, it’s thought that they’re ready to bid €7.5m (£6.6m) for the pair.

Reds involved in sponsorship legal battle

Away from the wonderful world of transfers, there is some slightly worrying news for Liverpool.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the club are being sued for more than £1m over a £15m deal for an online betting firm to sponsor the team’s training wear.

Sports sponsorship firm Winlink claims the Merseyside outfit owe £1.12m after one of its senior executives introduced club officials to their contacts at BetVictor seven years ago.

However, Liverpool say their head of global partnership sales personally negotiated the deal with BetVictor’s CEO, suggesting that Winlink’s introduction was not the cause of the deal.

Although the trial started on Monday and is set to go on for another five days, the judge could reserve his overall judgement for a later date. This one isn’t likely to go away.
