Manchester United have held talks with Lautaro Martinez over a potential summer move, according to Spanish publication Marca.
The 22-year-old has been in fine form for Inter Milan this term having scored 12 goals in 22 appearances at the club.
As a result the Argentine has been linked with a number of Europe's biggest clubs.
Martinez had been widely expected to complete a summer move to Barcelona, with the Spanish giants keen to bring him in as a long term successor to Luis Suarez.
But according to reports Barcelona are feeling wary about financial implications of a move following their decision to ask players to take a paycut amid the current global pandemic.
It's reported that Martinez could attract a fee in the region of £100million, but with Barcelona stalling on a move it has opened the door for Manchester United to enter the race.
The Red Devils are keen to bolster their attacking line and as such are being credited with an interest alongside Real Madrid.
Whether Martinez could be tempted by a move to Old Trafford remains up for debate, as do the question of whether United could afford to stump up such a substantial fee.
Manchester United dealt Ismael Bennacer blow
Manchester United will have to wait if they're to complete a move for Ismael Bennacer.
According to Italian publication Calcio Mercato, the AC Milan midfielder will not be available until next summer after information emerged regarding a clause in his contract.
In contrast to what had been been reported last week, the 22-year-old has a release clause in his contract that means that a club can discuss personal terms with the player if they meet his £44million valuation.
However that clause does not become active until next summer.
As well as the Red Devils, Manchester City are also said to be keen on a move with Pep Guardiola said to have spoken to the midfielder about his future.
Bennacer has made quite an impression since moving to AC Milan following a disappointing spell with Arsenal.
The midfielder worked under Arsene Wenger between 2015 and 2017 but failed to live up to his potential in North London.
He moved on to play for Empoli in Italy's Serie B before securing a high profile switch to AC Milan
However after finding his feet at the San Siro, it seems that he could be lined up for a move sooner or later.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer urges strong mentality in new signings
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said that Manchester United must avoid signing 'rotten apples' in the summer transfer market.
The Red Devils face a pivotal summer as they look to mount a serious challenge for the Premier League title next term.
United will be looking to add a number of new addition to Solskjaer's squad before the start of the new season with several names already being linked.
But outlining the club's plans for the summer window, the Norwegian says that the most important thing is attracting players who have the correct mentality for the club.
Speaking to the Shiv Nadar Foundation, as quoted by Sky Sports, Solskjaer said: "You have to have a good personality and be professional because rotten apples in the basket will make the others rotten.
"So for me it's about building a team that will reflect me and my coaching staff's personalities and views. Of course there are standards because we want to win. We are in the business to win.
"But the first step to be a Manchester United player and person, you have to be humble enough to know you always have to work hard. Never give in and always do your best, 100 per cent effort is required every day and don't think you are better than you are.
"You still have to play with that confidence at the same time. It's a fine balance but that is what is going to make the difference when we want to get to the championship again that we want to win."
