Chelsea's interest in Kai Havertz may appear to have come out of the blue, but it's actually the result of a strategic transfer strategy.

The Daily Mail reported that the Blues are looking to tie up a move for the Bayer Leverkusen skipper as they look to take a proactive approach in the summer market.

Havertz had previously been linked with a move to Manchester United, but according to reports it seems that Chelsea have reason to think that their rivals are preoccupied with another addition.

According to ESPN, sources at Chelsea are convinced that Jadon Sancho is set to move to Old Trafford.

The West London side had previously been interested in a move for the Borussia Dortmund starlet, but after fearing that Sancho would prefer a move to the North West, they've focused their efforts elsewhere.

That has led to agreed deals for Hakim Ziyech from Ajax, and Timo Werner from RB Leipzig.

Chelsea are under no illusions that a move for Kai Havertz will be difficult to conclude, with Bayern Munich and Real Madrid also said to be keen.

But with Manchester United seemingly cooling their interest, it could pave the way for an early switch.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

The transfer window isn't even open and we're already gripped by what is going on.

Chelsea have been quickest out of the blocks with two huge signings all-but wrapped up, and it seems that they aren't finished yet.

In fact, they're only just getting started.

If they can tie up a deal for Kai Havertz that would one heck of a coup - especially if they are beating some of Europe's biggest clubs to the punch.

That could be disappointing for Manchester United, but with Jadon Sancho appearing to be their number one target, it seems that they'll be delighted if they can get that one over the line.
