The 48-year-old former world heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs has demonstrated that he is still in prime fighting shape.

The experienced American heavyweight boxer showed off his impressive condition in a recently published training camp video.

Briggs, otherwise known as ‘The Cannon’, signed for Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship on April 6 before the height of the coronavirus pandemic, and has been actively trying to revive his career by securing a high-profile bout.

‘The Cannon’ last fought at The O2 Arena in 2016 against Emilio Zarate, where he secured a knockout victory and held a formidable boxing record of 60 wins, one draw and just six defeats.

The outspoken American constantly referred to himself the best around and memorably got into a war of words with former British heavyweight boxer David Haye at the Charles Martin vs Anthony Joshua weigh-in four years ago.

Indeed, lucrative fights such as blockbuster bout with ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson have been mentioned with BKFC rumoured to be offering more than $20 million for the 53-year-old to return to the ring.

Some fight fans even believed it had already been confirmed last month following an announcement on BKFC President David Feldman’s Twitter account, stating that Shannon Briggs and Mike Tyson will be the main event for BKFC 12.

Feldman, however, would deny such things, stating nothing has yet been confirmed and declaring that this was a fake account.

Feldman’s BKFC was the first fight promotion to hold legal and sanctioned bare knuckle fights in America. The bouts are currently mainly held in Philadelphia.

So the Tyson fight may not yet be confirmed, however, one thing is certainly clear, Briggs has clearly worked hard on his conditioning and he perhaps could still mix it up with some of the boxing heavyweights today given the right opportunity.

Who would you like to see Briggs go up against in BKFC?
