Celtic wrapped up a triumphant ninth title in a row a number of weeks ago but their quest for ten in a row could be determined by how the transfer window goes.
Odsonne Edouard has been linked with the likes of Arsenal but the Hoops seem intent on keeping him at Parkhead after Neil Lennon spoke about the future of his star striker last week.
If he leaves and Lennon fails to replace him then it could give Rangers a boost in their quest to finally win another Scottish crown.
Though, if reports over the last few days are to be believed, they could be left chasing Celtic for yet another year.
That’s because today’s update includes links to a £15m striker, a reported bid for a midfielder and interest in a wonderkid – all players that could strengthen Celtic’s grip over Scottish football.
Ivan Toney interest
The Scottish Sun relayed information from The Daily Mail on Tuesday which revealed that both Celtic and Rangers had been tracking Peterborough United’s goalscoring sensation Ivan Toney.
However, if a deal is to be concluded then they can expect to pay £15m for his services.
Toney has been one of the English Football League’s shining lights in recent years, scoring 26 times this term – just one goal shy of Edouard.
In total over the last two campaigns, he’s found the back of the net on a mightily impressive 49 occasions.
Speaking about the interest, Posh chairman Barry Fry declared:
"I've had agents on telling me that Rangers and Celtic are very interested. But I haven't had any calls from either Rangers or Celtic, personally.
"If they have any sense, they'll pay us £15million to get him.”
David Turnbull bid
Football Insider have learned that Celtic are plotting a new bid for midfielder David Turnbull.
The Hoops agreed a £3.25m fee with Motherwell last summer but the deal had to be scrapped after the 20-year-old failed his medical.
The midfield man has been described as a genuine target by a Celtic source and they are now weighing up an offer.
Turnbull only signed a new contract with his current club in March and has played just twice this term in the Scottish Premiership.
The player was out long-term after having to undergo knee surgery and had only just returned to fitness once lockdown commenced.
Hoops tipped to sign Hickey
Noel Whelan told FI today that he is convinced Aaron Hickey would jump at the chance to sign for Celtic.
Speaking to the outlet, he claimed that the 17-year-old wonderkid and Hearts would find it rather difficult to turn down an approach from the Scottish giants in the summer.
The Daily Record suggest that interest in the defender is rather large. Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Manchester City are three of the other clubs fighting over the teenager so it won’t be plain sailing if Celtic do want to sign him.
Whelan told Football Insider:
“Hearts have gone down so they need the money.
“A player that has broken into the team at such a young age will want to stay in the Scottish Premiership. Celtic are moving very swiftly to bring him in.”
