Darragh MacAnthony has said that he expects Ivan Toney to be playing in the Premier League next term.

The Peterborough United striker bagged 26 goals this season and unsurprisingly, is now attracting the attention of some quite reputable teams.

The Scottish Sun have reported that Celtic and Rangers are among those who are interested, while a number of other clubs in the Championship are also said to be keen.

Owner of the Posh, Barry Fry, said last week that the club would command £15million for the former Newcastle man, and according to the club's chairman Darragh MacAnthony, it's key that the club get a good deal for the player.

MacAnthony told Sky Sports: “We had multiple clubs try and buy him in January, we promised Ivan if we weren’t in the Championship next season we would sell him.

“We don’t sell our players cheap, the pandemic won’t affect that.

“I can envisage he will probably go to the top two or three Championship clubs if not the bottom ten Premier League clubs.

“I think some of the Premier League clubs won’t do as much international shopping and might go domestic, and Ivan’s physicality is suited to playing at the highest level.

“He’s got physicality, pace and character – Newcastle should probably never have sold him to us. But we spent a lot of money buying him.

“He’s been the best player in League One this season, hopefully he will get his golden boot.”

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

There's no doubt that Ivan Toney is capable of playing at a higher level.

Having dominated League One this term, the former Newcastle United man is appears to be more than ready to step up.

Whether he's ready for a move to the Premier League is up for debate, but Toney could certainly do a job for a promotion-chasing Championship club, or a top of the table Scottish side like Celtic or Rangers.

The only stumbling block is that £15million price tag which may well prove to be troublesome.
