Manchester United are interested in signing Monaco striker Wissam Ben Yedder this summer.

Le10sport claimed on Tuesday that the player’s agent had already had several discussions with the Red Devils with a view to his client walking through the door of the Premier League outfit.

The forward has been in imperious form this term, scoring 19 goals in all competitions so it’s hardly surprising that he’s taken the interest of such an elite club.

According to the report, Ben Yedder, who is a French international, could be available for €40m (£35.6m).

It’s rumoured that Monaco have Torino’s Andrea Belotti lined up as the Frenchman’s replacement if he does indeed depart for United.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men are clearly in the market to strengthen in the final third, having lined up a move for Lautaro Martinez too.

GIVE ME SPORT’S Matt Dawson says...

At the age of 2019, it really feels like Ben Yedder is a late bloomer. Though, he is a fine player who certainly knows where the net is.

In Ligue 1 this term, the forward finds himself level with French sensation Kylian Mbappe in the goalscoring charts – both of them have netted 18.

That speaks volumes about his quality but what’s equally impressive is that’s able to score with such regularity despite sitting ninth in the table with Monaco.

Marcus Rashford has been tasked with leading the line for United this season and has done so to decent effect, finding the net 14 times. However, what they do lack is a proper out and out forward – someone capable of matching the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Jamie Vardy.

Odion Ighalo was brought in on loan but he isn’t the type of striker to guarantee you 20 goals a season. Ben Yedder, on the other hand, clearly can.

He was in mesmeric form in Spain last season for Sevilla, bagging 30 times in 54 outings. He is an underrated player but would certainly be good business.
