Celtic have made an enquiry to sign Livingston striker Lyndon Dykes once the summer window opens.

However, they aren’t the only team in the market to sign the forward according to TEAMtalk.

Per the report, Middlesbrough want to sign the striker who has scored nine goals in the SPFL this term.

Derby, Stoke and Blackburn are also interested parties, while Millwall, Wigan and Sunderland have also enquired.

Coincidentally, Celtic’s Old Firm rivals Rangers have lined up Dykes as a summer target too.

It’s thought that Livingston are demanding £2m for a player who has 12 strikes to his name in all competitions throughout the 2019/20 campaign. He also has ten assists.

GIVE ME SPORT’S Matt Dawson says...

Dykes has been one of the most impressive forwards outside of the top two sides in the SPFL this season – something his goal tally attests too.

Most impressively, however, is the way he’s bullied Celtic at times this season, particularly against defender Christopher Jullien.

Against Livi in March, the French defender allowed the Australian to slide past him all too easily as he assisted Scott Robinson for a goal. Before that, back in October, he also gave Jullien a torrid time as he scored during a remarkable 2-0 defeat for the Hoops.

Celtic may not need a striker if Odsonne Edouard remains at the club – something the Bhoys are aiming to do – but if he does leave they’ll need someone with Dykes’ bustling energy to replace him.

Leigh Griffiths showed what he was capable of back in March when he scored a hat-trick against St Mirren so adding a third forward to him and Edouard would fail to make much sense.

Thus, they might want to sell someone before bringing a player like Dykes through the door. Other clubs will likely need him more but Celtic have seen firsthand the damage he can do.

They’d have every right to fret if he joined Rangers.
