Sergio Ramos vs Gerard Pique has been one of the big defensive debates of the modern era.

The two Spaniards have been formidable partnership on international duty, helping La Roja win Euro 2008, the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012.

They are two of the greatest defenders of all-time, with both scooping an enormous amount of trophies with Barcelona and Real Madrid as well.

Pique's ball-playing defensive style has been crucial to Barca for so many years, while Ramos will go down as one of Los Blancos' greatest ever captains - a leader of men.

Given their contrasting styles, it's quite difficult to pick an obvious winner between the two. However, we here at GIVEMESPORT decided to ask our fans the tough question and the results were quite a shock.

Ramos emerged victorious with an enormous 80% of the 143,300 votes cast in our poll.

It's yet another reminder of the impact Real Madrid's magnanimous captain has had over football, a defender who manages to combine the gritty style of yesteryear with the slick efficiency of a modern footballer.

Sure, rival fans will detest him, but there's not a single team on the planet that would not benefit from Ramos' never-say-die attitude.

He's a world-class defender who always turns up in the big games and - unlike most - he scores a lot of goals. Ninety-one in 640 Real Madrid games to be exact.

Ramos with the Champions League trophy

Sadly for Pique, he lacks the Box Office personality of Ramos which undoubtedly elevates his standing in the eyes of many.

But the Barcelona man's domestic trophy record is arguably superior. Pique has eight La Liga titles, six Copa del Rey trophies and three Champions Leagues to his name.

In comparison, Ramos boasts four La Liga titles, two Copa del Reys and four Champions League wins.

Pique edges the trophy battle and in reality, he probably deserved way more than 20% of the vote...
