Newcastle United fans continue to chomp anxiously on their nails as they await news of the impending Saudi Arabia-backed takeover.

There has been precious little information out there so Magpies fans, naturally, are seizing on every single story surrounding the possible removal of Mike Ashley as the club’s owner.

There is plenty to be said about the possible return of the Premier League, though, with Newcastle set to face Sheffield United on the first weekend back.

GIVEMESPORT has taken a look at the best headlines surrounding the club for your perusal.

Owner Ashley has been absolutely torn apart by pundit Noel Whelan, per Football Insider.

The club has yet to announce whether or not fans who have purchased season tickets will be refunded for games played behind closed doors due to COVID-19.

That is despite a letter from the Newcastle United Supporters’ Trust being sent and Whelan has ripped into Ashley as a result.

He said: “For someone who has so much money, to treat people in that manner, people that have put money in his pocket every week – it is scandalous.”

Paul Robinson believes that Matty Longstaff will have plenty of options to move within England amid interest from Udinese, per Football Insider.

The Serie A club are said to have made him an offer worth £30,000-per-week to move to Serie A.

But Robinson believes that clubs in England will be more than willing to match that in a bid to convince him to stay on these shores.

He said: “If he did not want to stay at Newcastle, I am sure there would be a lot of suitors in this country that would match Udinese’s offer if money was important.”

Longstaff, of course, scored on his Newcastle debut against Manchester United.

Newcastle made a mistake

Newcastle have been told they should never have sold Ivan Toney to Peterborough United by the club’s chairman, per Sky Sports via HITC.

Toney moved to Posh in 2018 after making just four appearances for the Magpies’ senior side.
Since his move, he has scored 49 goals in 94 appearances, while also registering 15 assists, and Darragh MacAnthony believes the Magpies made a major blunder.

He said: “Newcastle should never have sold him to us, but we spent a lot of money buying him.

“He’s been the best player in League One this season, hopefully he’ll get the Golden Boot.”

Toney has scored 24 goals in 32 League One outings in 2019/20.
