Leeds United are set to sign defender Juan Foyth on loan according to two journalists with knowledge of Argentine football. The Tottenham man has been linked with a switch in recent days but now it looks as though their interested has materialised with a temporary switch well and truly in the offing. The news was first published by Nicolas Bozza, who tweeted on Wednesday evening.

Translated, his tweet reads as: "The former footballer of #EDLP Juan Foyth will be a reinforcement of Leeds United. The centre back of the Argentina National Team will play in the Bielsa team. He has loaned him for a season."

That was then backed up by another journalist, Roy Nemer, who posted a link saying he was "set to join" Leeds on a temporary basis.

Capped ten times by Argentina, it looks as though Victor Orta has wasted no time in potentially preparing Leeds for Premier League life.

If there was one area of Leeds' team that needed more bodies then it's undoubtedly in defence.

For a period of time, there were big fears that United may have to finish the season with just one senior defender. That's because the season's extension following Coronavirus could have wreaked havoc with player contracts and loans.

Gaetano Berardi's current deal expires at the end of the month while Ben White was only at Elland Road for a season, on loan from Brighton.

White has been one of the standout players in the Championship this term, winning 2.8 of his aerial duels per game and registering a pass success rate north of 85%, but whether they can secure him for a longer stay remains to be seen.

Foyth will be a welcome addition given the lack of options, but he could have his work cut out bettering White. He has won just 0.7 aerial duels per outing this season.

Either way, this is a player with Premier League experience - something they'll need in abundance if they get promoted.
