Newcastle are interested in a sensational swoop for Bayer Leverkusen's Kai Havertz.

That's according to journalist Christian Falk who took to Twitter on Thursday morning to suggest they were one of the clubs in a long list of teams that were pursuing him.

Havertz has taken the interest of Chelsea this week who look to be in pole position to sign him. Previous reports suggested they were hoping to wrap up a £70m deal for the German.

However, some of Europe's other heavyweights will have to battle it out in order to land the 21-year-old.

Falk claims Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United and Bayern Munich also want to sign Havertz.

The potential destination of the German international looks set to become one of the sagas of the summer.

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

This would be one of the most audacious transfer moves in recent history but would be a testament to the desires the potential new owners at Newcastle have.

A £300m takeover has reportedly been on the takeover but is struggling to pass the Premier League due to issues with broadcast piracy.

In order to afford someone as expensive as Havertz, this takeover would surely have to go through first, but it would be an extraordinary start to their new era.

The Magpies have already been linked with Philippe Coutinho this week but Havertz would be an even better signing. After all, he is just 21 years of age and has bettered the Brazilian numbers this term.

The Bayern Leverkusen midfielder has 15 goals to his name, as well as eight assists. Coutinho, meanwhile, has nine strikes and eight assists in 2019/20.

The latter may be Premier League proven with Liverpool but Havertz has the world at his feet - he is a generational talent being pursued by some of the biggest clubs in the world.

If they have a choice, they must pursue Havertz instead of Coutinho. Both moves seem farfetched but it would show the might of Newcastle's proposed buyers.
