Tottenham Hotspur could try to offload four players this summer as they look to buy Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton, per The Times.

The Saints captain is a target for Spurs and he is keen on a move to a bigger club, per the report.

His contract expires at the end of next season and Spurs were hoping to pay £20 million for the midfielder, though the Saints want to receive £35m.

However, the COVID-19 pandemic has severely limited the available funds at the club and that has led to the suggestion that players could be offloaded.

Kyle Walker-Peters, Eric Dier, Serge Aurier, and Danny Rose are all touted as possible casualties if Spurs decide to try to raise funds.

Walker-Peters has been on loan at the Saints but has barely featured, while Rose joined Newcastle on loan in January.

GIVEMESPORT’S Harry Sherlock says…

This would make complete sense.

Walker-Peters and Rose are almost certain to leave anyway, having been exiled with loan deals, and Aurier has been poor at right-back whenever he has played.

An ill-disciplined player, there is no real back-up for him, though, and if he were sold Spurs may need to invest in a new right-back too.

Dier, though, is not good enough to play in either defensive midfield or in central defence and one has to assume that Hojbjerg would take his place in the squad if he arrived.

Moving him on, then, would be a logical move and one has to think that he would bring in the biggest fee of the four.

It is sad that the club need to resort to this to secure a player for a relatively cheap fee in the current market, but these truly are exceptional times.
