Tottenham Hotspur are confident of agreeing a new deal with Eric Dier over a new contract, per Football Insider.

Spurs want to keep the 26-year-old at the club and are ready to extend his stay in north London.

Dier’s current contract expires at the end of next season and manager Jose Mourinho is said to be a big fan of the England international.

He can play at centre-back or in midfield and Spurs are said to be looking to tie him down to a long-term deal.

He has made just 10 starts this season but has previously been a mainstay in the starting XI, also winning 40 caps for England.

It remains to be seen if Dier will be available to play for the club when they take on Manchester United next week as he awaits the results of a disciplinary hearing for leaping into the crowd after an FA Cup tie against Norwich City.

GIVEMESPORT’S Harry Sherlock says…

Mourinho clearly likes Dier.

The Portuguese hailed the midfielder after the 1-1 draw with Burnley prior to the COVID-19 suspension.

Per talkSPORT, he said: “To be playing so well as a centre-back, to raise the levels of confidence and he goes to midfield and was very, very good. Very, very good.

“When people were asking about his frame of mind I think they don’t need to ask again because I think he was very, very good.”

He was linked with a move to sign Dier during his time as Manchester United manager and now looks set to make him a cornerstone of his Spurs project.

Managers have favourites; Dier is certainly Mourinho’s.
