Chelsea are set to complete the signing of RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner within the next week, according to The London Evening Standard.

The Blues have enjoyed an incredibly busy few months of transfer action, securing the signing of Hakim Ziyech from Ajax and striking a deal to bring Werner in too.

His release clause, which stands at £53 million, is set to expire on Monday but the deal will be concluded in the coming days.

According to the report, the logistics of the medical that needs to take place have been disturbed by the COVID-19 pandemic and the travel restrictions in place.

The deal for Werner could also be followed by a bid for Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell, with an increasing confidence that the England international will move to Stamford Bridge.

GIVEMESPORT’S Harry Sherlock says…

Chelsea fans may have been worrying about the lack of updates surrounding this deal.

But Werner appears to have agreed to move to west London and the deal, at this point, is merely a formality by all accounts.

Patience, then, is set to be rewarded this week as he puts pen to paper and completes an astonishing coup for manager Frank Lampard.

The Germany international has been in brilliant form for Leipzig, scoring 31 goals in all competitions this season.

The 24-year-old will surely lead the line next term for Lampard’s men and that is a scary thought for all opposition teams.
