Manchester United continued their preparations for the return of the Premier League season on Friday. The Red Devils will resume their league campaign with a trip to Tottenham Hotspur on June 19, but aimed to optimise player fitness with two friendlies against West Bromwich Albion at Old Trafford. The decision came after a positive coronavirus test scuppered a planned friendly with Stoke City, meaning United have partaken in a friendly against a different club much later than their rivals.Liverpool secured a 6-0 win over Blackburn Rovers on Thursday, Chelsea eased their way to a 1-0 win over Reading and Arsenal suffered a shock defeat against Brentford at the Emirates. And although it remains to be seen whether United will release highlights of their double-bill with the Baggies, information has already leaked about the events of the game.

Man Utd lost friendly to West Brom

Telegraph's John Percy rounded up the action by revealing that the first match ended in a shock 2-1 loss for the home side, but the Red Devils turned things around with a 3-1 win second time out.

Percy admitted that he knew no further details about the fixtures, but the scores do align with leaked information fed to the UnitedStand that allegedly comes from one of the West Brom players.

They report that the squad for the first fixture went as follows:

Nathan Bishop, Sergio Romero, Diogo Dalot, Teden Mengi, Axel Tuanzebe, Eric Bailly, Brandon Williams, Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Angel Gomes, Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, Nemanja Matic, Daniel James, Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford.

Lost 2-1, then won 3-1

And for the second game:

David De Gea, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Phil Jones, Luke Shaw, Scott McTominay, Andreas Pereira, Jesse Lingard, Fred, Tahith Chong, James Garner, Juan Mata, Odion Ighalo.

The source claims that Fernandes and Pogba played in midfield together for the first time during the initial friendly, which makes United's reported 2-1 loss all the more shocking.

It's also alleged that Fernandes both scored a penalty and missed one for the home side, though the apparent West Brom player said the Portuguese and Pogba were the 'best players for me'.

They add that Anthony Martial was 'class as well'.

Only time will tell whether the 'leaked' WhatsApp information is genuine or not, but we can be pretty certain that United lost their first friendly and we'll let you make of that what you will.
