Cristiano Ronaldo endured a turbulent return to action during Juventus 0-0 AC Milan in the Coppa Italia. After the first leg finished 1-1 at San Siro, it was anybody's game going into the return fixture at the Allianz Stadium, even if the coronavirus pandemic meant that it took four months to get there. But Juve had the chance to tighten their grip on the tie just 15 minutes into the game, earning a penalty courtesy of VAR and giving Ronaldo the perfect chance to mark his return. However, despite having scored from the spot during the first leg in stoppage time, Ronaldo was clearly showing some post-lockdown rustiness by striking the upright from 12 yards. It was a twist of fate that upped the ante even more in Turin as the following break in play culminated in Ante Rebic receiving a red card for a kung-fu kick to Danilo's chest.

Juventus 0-0 AC Milan

From there on in, the two Italian giants played out something of a chess match, reaching the final whistle at the empty Allianz Stadium goalless despite the discrepancy in player numbers.

As a result, the abiding memory will indeed be that crazy minute where Ronaldo struck the post and Rebic lost his head, but there was plenty more to focus on as far as the former is concerned.

For better or for worse, Ronaldo attracts more attention than his teammates because, well, he's a five-time Ballon d'Or winner and it wasn't exactly a vintage display from the Portuguese forward.

Ronaldo all over the show vs AC Milan

We're going to put the penalty miss to the side for the moment, because that happens to the best of players, but there were plenty more moments to forget for Ronaldo on Friday night.

In fact, multiple clips of Ronaldo looking foolish cropped up on Twitter throughout the match from failing to control the ball, messing up skills and woefully missing big opportunities.

Indeed, there were so many that we couldn't help compiling them all in one place to highlight the fact that even sporting legends like Ronaldo can suffer from rustiness after three months out.

Failing to head the ball

Smashing one into row Z

Botching a skill move in the box

Shanking a one-on-one wide

One fan tweeted in response: "Ronaldo again, looks like he is not ready yet!"

Another penned: "Ronaldo has looked rusty as hell tonight. Understandable"

And one wrote: "Ronaldo is having a shocker here. I suppose he's allowed one bad game in his career."

But... CR7 did produce a rabona

However, this is Ronaldo we're talking about, so it's only natural that his entire performance wasn't all doom and gloom and he produced a stunning reminder of his skill in the 90th minute.

Ronaldo sent Diego Laxalt back to Uruguay with a stunning turn of direction on the right flank, before impudently firing a rabona cross into the area that was sadly headed away.

We like to think of the game as Ronaldo easing himself back into things with a few bumps and scrapes along the way, only to remind us right at the end that his very best is on its way.

Even the very best have their off-days and you can be sure that a night to forget against AC Milan will give Ronaldo all the motivation he needs to come back with a vengeance in the final.
