Newcastle United are battling with West Ham United and a number of Serie A clubs to sign Malang Sarr from OGC Nice this summer, per FCInternews.

The central defender is in demand as the summer transfer window approaches.

Indeed, the report claims that Inter Milan are interested, along with Lazio, as both clubs search for a left-footed centre-back.

Eintracht Frankfurt, Lyon, West Ham and the Magpies are also credited with an interest in the 21-year-old, whose contract expires this summer.

A France U21 international, Sarr can play at centre-back or at left-back and has spent the entirety of his career at Nice.

Indeed, he has made 119 appearances for the club in total, but it appears that he may well be drawing the curtain down on his career at the club this summer.

Whether he ends up in England, though, remains to be seen.

GIVEMESPORT’S Harry Sherlock says…

Sarr is a highly-rated young prospect.

Still just 21, he has been an ever-present in Ligue 1 for some time now and has previously been linked with Arsenal.

Newcastle snapping him up on a free would be a smart piece of business, especially given the resale value available here.

Left-footed centre-backs are not easy to come by, especially ones with Sarr’s reading of the game and technical ability.

Even if he were to stay at St James’ Park for just a brief period, a move would surely net the Magpies a healthy profit.

For that reason alone, they should pull out all the stops to make this happen.
