The Premier League is so very nearly back.

England’s top flight returns on Wednesday, three months after it was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It’s a shame that we’re not going to see the conclusion of a tense title race, owing to Liverpool’s dominance, but there’s still plenty to settle, including European places and relegation.

Bournemouth, Aston Villa and Norwich City currently occupy the bottom three spots, but did you know that all three teams could still finish in the top four?

It’s not going to happen, of course, but it’s mathematically possible.

It’s much more likely that the Canaries are headed for the Championship. According to Sky Sports, they stand a slim five per cent chance of survival.

Sky Sports and football analysis Ben Mayhew have teamed up to show the best and worst possible final positions for every Premier League team.

Liverpool can finish no worse than second while 14th-placed Southampton can still finish runners-up, or 20th.

In terms of relegation, Norwich, who are just six points off safety, have a 95 per cent chance of going down.

The Canaries are still to play Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City this season.

Aston Villa have a 69.9 per cent chance of going down, while Bournemouth have a 63.4 per cent chance of being relegated.
