Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi both returned to football this week.

Given that both players are into their thirties now - Ronaldo is 35, Messi turns 33 later on in June - we really should appreciate each and every opportunity we get to watch them play.

It’s going to be a long, long time before we see two players as good as them.

Messi enjoyed his return game much more than Ronaldo did.

The Argentinian scored once and set up two goals as Barcelona cruised to a 4-0 win against Mallorca.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, missed a penalty and looked very rusty in Juventus’ 0-0 draw against AC Milan on Friday evening.

Unfortunately for the Portuguese star, his ‘highlights’ from the game have now been put alongside Messi’s in a video on Twitter.

To go with his missed penalty, Ronaldo also skied an effort over the bar and a clip of him messing up a skill went viral.

Football Twitter can be cruel at times.

Ronaldo may not have been at his best but he will get an opportunity to add another trophy to his collection when Juventus take on Napoli in the Coppa Italia final on Wednesday.

It’s a big game and we typically see Ronaldo at his best when the lights are on.

Messi, meanwhile, helped Barcelona in their bid to win a third-straight La Liga title.

Goals from Arturo Vidal, Martin Braithwaite and Jordi Alba set Barcelona on their way to a convincing win and Messi put the cherry on top in injury time.

The win left Quique Setien’s side five points ahead of Real Madrid at the top of the table.
