Tyson Fury has recently revealed his top five current heavyweight boxers after the announcement of his much-anticipated fight with Anthony Joshua was made last week.
Fury awarded himself the top spot, obviously, with very few people arguing against that, but it's where he's placed both Deontay Wilder and AJ that will cause a stir.
The big story out of this is that there are some early mind games being played, as he ranked his last opponent Wilder above his next opponent Joshua.
Wilder, who he beat convincingly in their February rematch, might not be ranked so highly in other peoples' top five, but Fury is starting to get into AJ’s head by putting him lower than the last person he beat.
The deal between Fury and Joshua involves two fights with the first one to take place provisionally in the summer of 2021.
This deal relies on Fury and AJ winning both of their next fights, however, with Fury having to win his third fight against Wilder and Joshua having to beat the Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev.
Both fights have been postponed due to coronavirus fears.
The other two fighters to round out Fury’s list is Oleksandr Usyk and Dillian Whyte at number four and five respectively.
Despite only having one fight in the heavyweight division, Usyk was the first ever cruiserweight in history to hold every single major world championship; the WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO.
As for Whyte, he is the mandatory challenger for Fury’s WBC belt and has been eagerly waiting for his shot at the title after being ignored by Wilder when he held the belt.
Eddie Hearn has mentioned, however, that Whyte might be able to get his chance even before the Fury vs Joshua fight.
One thing is for certain though, the Fury vs Joshua mind games have already started.
