Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has backed Dean Henderson to become Manchester United’s No.1, per Sky Sports News.
The goalkeeper has spent the season on loan at Sheffield United and has been in truly impressive form.
Indeed, Chris Wilder’s men are pushing for European qualification and Henderson has been a key reason for that; only Burnley’s Nick Pope has kept more clean sheets in the Premier League, per the official website.
There were question marks hanging over the 23-year-old’s future as a result of his form, especially given the presence of David De Gea at Old Trafford.
However, Solskjaer has now hinted that Henderson will be given the opportunity to become United’s first-choice stopper.
He said: "Dean has made some great choices over the years and has developed fantastically.
"We're looking at that in terms of where he's going to be next season, but as yet that has not been decided.
"This season has proved a great experience for him, he's done himself some favours with his performances, and proved he will be England's No 1 and Man United's No 1 at some point."
GIVEMESPORT’S Harry Sherlock says…
There is clearly a plan in place for Henderson.
Solskjaer says he doesn’t know exactly where he will be next season but clearly he rates him highly and believes that he could become a star in Manchester.
Allowing him the chance to become their No.1 would certainly help with that but it is something of a dilemma.
After all, if he ends up playing just 10 or 15 games next season, his development will surely stall; at Sheffield United, he has been first-choice all campaign.
One must wait and see but it is clear that United believe he will eventually be their long-term custodian.
Given this season's performances, it should happen sooner rather than later.
