Arsenal have stepped up their efforts to sign Thomas Partey this summer.

According to Goal in Spain, the Gunners have made a contract offer to the midfielder which would triple his wages.

The Atletico Madrid man faces an uncertain summer due to an release clause in his contract which is thought to be £44.5million.

Partey had been keen to stay with the Spanish giants, but given the huge sums being discussed it's reported that he's now considering his options.

Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain have also expressed an interest in the 27-year-old, and could be tempted to make a move.

Due to the financial implication of the COVID-19 pandemic, Diego Simeone's side are now also thought to be open to cashing in on the star, which could pave the way for a move to North London.

However whether Arsenal can stump up the cash to convince him to move remains to be seen.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

This is certainly an interesting one.

Unfortunately for Arsenal fans I just can't see it materialising.

The Gunners are looking to cut their cloth after a season outside of the Champions League, and with a top four finish now highly unlikely, it seems that their belts will need to be tightened further.

Forking out for Thomas Partey - as well as offering a huge sum for wages - seems a little bit far fetched given their situation.

After all, a midfielder is probably not even Mikel Arteta's top priority this summer, so for me, this isn't a move that will materialise.

That said, the Gunners have proved me wrong before and probably will again.
