Football is back and we’re immediately at the business end of the season.
Domestic leagues will be won and lost over the next couple of weeks and we’re in the latter stages of cup competitions when they eventually resume.
It’s all about which teams and which players hit the ground running.
While football all around the world was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic, many leagues are already back up and running.
The Premier League and Serie A will join La Liga and the Bundesliga in returning to action as they conclude the 2019/20 campaign.
While we won’t miss out on any club football in those four leagues, we have been robbed of international tournaments in the form of Euro 2020 and Copa America.
So how has the coronavirus pandemic affected the race to win the 2020 Ballon d’Or?
Well, Goal regularly update us with their Ballon d'Or 2020 Power Rankings to reveal the 20 players most likely to claim the individual award.
Let’s take a look at their latest ranking:
20 | Joshua Kimmich (Bayern Munich)
Kimmich’s beautiful chip saw Bayern beat Borussia Dortmund earlier this month as they edge towards yet another league title.
19 | Sadio Mane (Liverpool)
This time next week, Mane and his Liverpool teammates might be Premier League champions. If he can pick up where he left off, he’d be climbing these rankings.
18 | Ciro Immobile (Lazio)
Immobile has been overtaken by Robert Lewandowski in the European Golden Shoe rankings but he’ll look to rediscover his goalscoring form when Serie A returns.
17 | Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United)
Has been brilliant for Man Utd since his arrival. If he can lead the Red Devils to the Europa League, FA Cup and top-four finish, Fernandes’ chances will increase dramatically.
16 | Paulo Dybala (Juventus)
Juve and Dybala could be celebrating on Wednesday as they face Napoli in the Coppa Italia final. They’re set to win Serie A too.
15 | Alphonso Davies (Bayern Munich)
Davies has been incredible since the return of Bundesliga football. One of the best left-backs in the world right now.
14 | Kai Havertz (Bayer Leverkusen)
In 2020, Havertz has scored 12 goals and registered seven assists in all competitions. A big move in the summer could see Havertz become a household name.
13 | Jordan Henderson (Liverpool)
Henderson will be getting his trademark trophy shuffle ready when the Premier League does return. He’s also the favourite to claim the PFA Player of the Year award.
12 | Josip Ilicic (Atalanta)
Ilicic has managed to score 14 goals already in 2020!
11 | Timo Werner (RB Leipzig)
Werner has scored four goals in six Bundesliga matches since its return. He’s also set to join Chelsea this summer.News Now - Sport News
