Leeds United news round-up: Daniel Ayala, Juan Foyth and more in the news

Leeds United are gearing up for the return of the football season with things set to get under way this weekend.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side currently sit at the top of the Championship and are seven points clear of the play-off spots with nine games to go.

While promotion looks probable at this point, there’s still plenty of work to be done to get themselves over the line.

The squad are back at Thorp Arch as they gear up to face Cardiff City on the weekend of June 20, but there’s plenty of working being put in off the field as they look ahead to next term.

Here’s the latest news to come out of Elland Road in the last 24 hours.

Juan Foyth to Leeds United would be ‘a great signing’

Noel Whelan has urged Leeds United to complete the signing of Juan Foyth as soon as possible.

The Tottenham defender could be available on loan this summer, and according to the former forward, would be a shrewd bit of business.

Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan said: “It is really important we get him in early so he can have somewhat of a preseason with the squad.

“Bielsa had a good relationship with Pochettino at Tottenham as well as Pep Guardiola at Manchester City so that deal was always on the cards.

“He never made it any secret that he was interested in that player but he was needed at Tottenham during that spell.

“Now Pochettino has gone and Mourinho has come in, he is not wanted.

“It would be a great signing. An Argentina international at a great age and he knows what the Premier League is all about. It would be a shrewd bit of business if they can get it done now.

“It would be on body in place for next season if we cannot lure Ben White back to Leeds.”

Leeds United preparing move for Cyle Larin

Leeds United are preparing to make a summer move for striker Cyle Larin, according to Turkish publication Aksam, via Sport Witness.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side are known to be in the market for another attacker this summer and are assessing the market to find the best option.

Larin currently plays for Besiktas but has spent much of the 2019-20 season on loan with Belgian side Zulte Waregem where he has scored seven and created 10 in 29 appearances.

However he’s now returned to the Turkish side where his future is uncertain.

According to the report, Besiktas are said to be in some financial difficulty which means that they will be willing to listen to cut-price offers for their players, including Larin.

That’s something that could appeal to Leeds United, who could offer £2.2million to try and get a deal over the line.

The 25-year-old is thought to be a long-term target for the Whites, who were also keen on a deal for him while he was with Orlando City, whom he left for Besiktas in 2018.

Leeds United closing in on deal for Middlesbrough’s Daniel Ayala

Football Insider are reporting that Leeds United are closing in on a deal for Daniel Ayala.

The Middlesbrough defender is out of contract this summer, and with no agreement in place, looks set to move on.

Marcelo Bielsa will be hoping to get a deal done as soon as possible, with the 29-year-old likely to attract plenty of attention over the next couple of weeks.
