Tottenham Hotspur are working hard behind the scenes as preparation for the season's restart hits full flow.

Jose Mourinho has been working his players hard during the enforced break from action with each player having a personalised training programme to get stuck into at home, before being eased back into full training in recent weeks.

The squad are now back at Enfield and preparing for a return to top flight action when they take on Manchester United.

Plenty is going on off the pitch as well as the club look ahead to next season and start to eye up potential summer additions.

Here are the latest news stories to come out of North London in the last 24 hours.

Spurs' boss Jose Mourinho wants Thiago Silva

Jose Mourinho has given his backing to Tottenham Hotspur's plans to sign Thiago Silva, according to The Sun.

The Brazilian defender has been a pillar of the modern game but is now 35 years of age. With that in mind, it’s probably unsurprising that PSG are willing to let him go for absolutely nothing.

Sources told the outlet that interest in the player continues to grow and the centre-back is likely to have his choice of clubs once his deal in Paris expires.

It might well be a difficult decision for Silva who could be appealed to a number of clubs due to a variety of factors.

Tottenham will certainly be keen to improve their defence with Jan Vertonghen all-but certain to move on this summer.

Spurs' Philippe Coutinho stance revealed

Philippe Coutinho is unlikely to make a move to Tottenham Hotspur due to the finances involved in a deal, according to Alasdair Gold of Football London.

The midfielder is available after being deemed surplus to requirements by Barcelona.

A number of clubs are said to be interested in a move for the Brazilian - most notably Chelsea and Newcastle United - who is reported to be available for a cut-price fee of £44.5million.

The Spanish side would also entertain a player-plus-cash deal in order to cut their losses on Coutinho, who cost them around £142million.

Spurs are one of the sides heavily linked with a move for the Brazilian, but according to Gold, a deal for Coutinho is likely to be a fallback option at best.

Spurs plot move for forgotten Watford man

Tottenham Hotspur are planning a move for Watford man Pervis Estupinan, according to Spanish publication AS.

The left-sided player may not be a household name for the Hornets after joining the club in 2016 after spending three seasons on loan in La Liga.

Estupinan has really impressed for Osasuna this term and that has led to some heavy interest in his signature from some of Europe's biggest clubs.

Along with Spurs, the 22-year-old is reportedly attracting interest from Manchester United Atletico Madrid and Barcelona as his future is set to be decided.

Valued at £6million by Transfermarkt, Estupinan has just one year remaining on his contract at Vicarage Road, and after struggling to break into the first team set-up, it seems that this could be summer that sees him sold on.
