Leicester City are eyeing a summer move for Burnley defender James Tarkowski, reports The Daily Mirror.

However, the Foxes will not be alone in chasing the England international when the transfer window reopens.

The report states that Crystal Palace will go toe-to-toe with Brendan Rodgers’ men over the potential deal.

Leicester were interested in Tarkowski in January but Burnley retained one of their star men after slapping a £50 million asking price on his head, per the piece.

However, Brendan Rodgers remains keen and he wants to bolster his backline if the Foxes manage to qualify for the Champions League; they are currently third, eight points clear of fifth-placed Manchester United.

Burnley would hate to lose the 27-year-old but the impact of the COVID-19 crisis may have limited their ability to fight off suitors.

GIVEMESPORT’S Harry Sherlock says…

Tarkowski would be a superb signing for Leicester.

He is approaching his peak and has been at the heart of much of what has been achieved by Sean Dyche’s side.

He has risen through the leagues, having begun his career at Oldham Athletic, and is clearly an effective Premier League defender.

Indeed, per WhoScored, he averages 5.1 clearances per game, 1.7 tackles, and 1.7 interceptions, along with five aerial duels won.

He would be a no-nonsense addition to Leicester’s backline; provided they can do this deal for a reasonable fee, they should be pulling out all the stops.
