Steven Gerrard believes Liverpool should build Jurgen Klopp a statue outside Anfield when he delivers the Premier League title.

The Merseyside club are so close to securing domestic glory and could be crowned champions as early as Sunday.

When it inevitably happens, Klopp and co. will end 28 years of hurt.

So how should Liverpool honour the man that's going to win them their first Premier League title?

Well according to Stevie G, they should build him a statue.

"Knowing Jurgen, he won't want to be put in that bracket [with Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley and Kenny Dalglish]," Gerrard told The Athletic.

"I know what he's like, he's humble and respectful. When you look at the scale of the job he's done, for sure he deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as those iconic managers.

"What you need to take into consideration is that when Jurgen took over Liverpool they weren't close to being the best team in the country, they weren't even in the top four.

Klopp has turned Liverpool around

"To come to Liverpool when he did, get to the amount of finals that he has, deliver the sixth European Cup and then deliver the first league title after 30 years...

"For me, someone like Jurgen should be rewarded now. It seems like in football we often wait until people get older before their achievements are fully recognised.

"But I know the owners of Liverpool won't let that happen. When Jurgen delivers the league they should already be starting work on a statue of him."

Gerrard wants to see a statue of Klopp

We don't think Gerrard would get any objections from Liverpool fans. As he says, what Klopp has achieved at Anfield is nothing short of iconic.

This first Premier League title will follow last season's Champions League triumph in Madrid.

While managers before Klopp have won the European Cup, none were able to secure the Premier League. That alone, is surely worth a statue?
