Ring Magazine release their latest heavyweight rankings

The latest Ring Magazine heavyweight rankings make for pleasant reading for British boxing fans, with three Brits sitting at the top of the list led by WBC champion Tyson Fury.

The 31-year-old claimed the Ring Magazine belt for the second time in his career when he defeated Deontay Wilder in February in Las Vegas, and that victory sees him rated above domestic rivals Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte, who are viewed as the first and second-ranked heavyweights in the world respectively.

Wilder remains third following his one-sided loss to Fury, one place above his former opponent Luis Ortiz, whilst Andy Ruiz Jr. is in fifth spot after his short-lived time as champion was ended by Joshua in December 2019.

The sixth and seventh spots are also occupied by previous Joshua foes.

Alexander Povetkin is on the cusp of the top five, and appears likely to get the opportunity to improve his ranking as he is rumoured to be fighting Whyte next. Meanwhile, Joseph Parker comes in just below Povetkin, and is looking to move back into championship contention after successive defeats in 2018.

The final three places are taken by Michael Hunter, Oscar Rivas and Kubrat Pulev.

Hunter battled to a draw with Povetkin last year, and is unbeaten since moving up to heavyweight, whilst Rivas suffered his first professional loss against Whyte in July 2019.

The experienced Bulgarian Pulev also only has one loss on his record when challenging Wladimir Klitschko for his titles in 2014, but looks set to get his second chance at heavyweight gold against AJ later this year.

The future also looks bright for Britain in boxing's blue-riband division, with Daniel Dubois only just missing out on the current top 10.

At just 22, Dubois has already moved to 14-0, and looks to be one of the most exciting prospects in the UK right now.

The Londoner is joined in the chasing pack by former unified cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, and 2016 Olympic bronze medallist Filip Hrgovic.
