Paul Robinson believes that Celtic are still favourites to sign Fraser Forster, despite the inevitably more lucrative interest from the Premier League.

The Southampton goalkeeper has spent this season on loan at Parkhead and has been heavily linked with a return to the Scottish champions this summer.

That move has been complicated due to the reported interest from Premier League side Chelsea, who could be tempted to make a move for the stopper.

However according to the former England goalkeeper, he'd be surprised to see the experienced stopper move to West London.

Speaking to Football Insider, Robinson said: “When it comes to spending power and you talk about Celtic and Chelsea – there is no competition.

“If it comes down to money Chelsea will win all day long.

“I do not see them buying him as a number one given where he has been, even though he has done very well at Celtic but I do not see him as Chelsea’s number one.

“Caballero is a good backup goalkeeper but he is 38 now.

“I just cannot see Forster going to Chelsea for any reason other than for financial reasons.”

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

Celtic making a permanent move for Fraser Forster is a no-brainer for me.

After spending the best part of five years at Celtic Park the 32-year-old knows exactly what it takes to be a success with the club, and the fans know that.

While he may be in the autumn of his career, Forster is likely to still have a few good years left in him and that means that Celtic could reap the benefits of his experience for several seasons to come.

It will be a big ask to compete with the finances on offer in the Premier League, but given his affinity for the club it could prove to be a shrewd move to sign him up.
