Leeds United will not be making a move for Daniel Ayala over the summer, according to Leeds Live.

The defender is likely to be hot property over the coming weeks with his contract at Middlesbrough due to expire on June 30.

Ayala's days at the Riverside are all-but over after reports from the Daily Mail suggested that he's refusing to take part in their remaining fixtures.

This has, in part, been down to the ongoing speculation over his future, with Marcelo Bielsa's side being one of the key names mentioned as a future destination.

However it's now thought that those links are wide of the mark.

It's claimed that Victor Orta, who knows the 29-year-old well from his time on Teesside, isn't prioritising a move for Ayala with doubts over his ability to effectively step up to Premier League level.

Those claims were seconded by Teesside Live who believe that the Spaniard could turned down  the offer of a three-year deal in January this year with his agent at the time said to be lining up a lucrative move to China or Qatar.

However with a new agent by his side it remains to be seen where Ayala will sign next, all that seems clear is that a move to West Yorkshire with Leeds United seems unlikely.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

This one looks like it's going to rumble on for a little while longer.

There's a bitter taste in the mouths of Middlesbrough's supporters with their former skipper now turning into the villain of the piece as his final weeks at the club play out.

A move to Leeds United seemed to be on the cards, but with two local sources suggesting that there's no legs in that link it seems highly unlikely.

Where Daniel Ayala will end up remains very much up in the air, but one place where he won't be spending next season is in the hearts of the Teessiders.
