The news that fight fans have been waiting for was finally confirmed last week, to the delight of many.
Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury have agreed in principle a two-fight deal in 2021, if they can both make successful defences against Kubrat Pulev and Deontay Wilder respectively.
Already dubbed by many as the fight of the century, it is certainly going to be the biggest fight ever in British boxing history and a fascinating clash between the world’s top two heavyweights.
The coronavirus pandemic has starved boxing fans of some amazing fights planned for this year and it is hoped that this fight, which has been craved by boxing fans for so long, will finally happen.
For both fighters it has been quite the journey to get into this position. Anthony Joshua’s career was going from strength to strength, culminating in a debut fight in America in June last year.
The world came crashing down, however, for Joshua when he was beaten by Andy Ruiz Jr, who was derided by many as a no hoper before the bout.
The shock defeat was widely viewed as one of boxing’s all-time greatest upsets. Fortunately for Joshua, he managed to exact his revenge in the rematch in Saudi Arabia in December 2019.
Tyson Fury’s journey back to the top has been well documented, but still barely believable.
After ballooning to 28 stone amidst a spiral of mental health problems with drink and drugs, he finally returned in 2018.
After a couple of easy victories, he fought Deontay Wilder and memorably got off the canvas after being floored in the 12th round. After a controversial draw being awarded, he fought Wilder again in February this year and comprehensively beat him in a seven-round demolition.
Fans have been understandably excited at the prospect of this fight getting closer to becoming a reality, and one has gone to the extreme lengths of making his own promo for the occasion, and it's very impressive.
This video by 'OG Boxing' perfectly illustrates the story that has led us to here and the excitement building amongst fight fans and the boxing community.
