Manchester United are eyeing a summer swoop for Bayern Leverkusen's Leon Bailey.

The Daily Mail understands that United are very seriously considering making a move for the Jamaican who has seven goals this season.

United have been after Jadon Sancho but with Coronavirus playing havoc with finances, they could prefer a cheaper switch for Bailey.

The 22-year-old is set to be available for £40m, a fee that's some way off the £100m Borussia Dortmund are asking for Sancho.

He is reportedly still United's number one target but there would certainly be sense in going for the cheaper option, particularly in the current climate.

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

Bailey or Sancho? That's the question at the moment. One is valued astronomically but the other would comfortably fit into United's budget.

If they did go for the former they certainly wouldn't be making a bad move. After all, the youngster has been dubbed the new Arjen Robben - possessing a wonderful left-foot and electrifying speed.

He is capable of playing off either flank and despite featuring just 19 times in the Bundesliga this term, he still has enormous potential.

Bailey has already bettered the tally he mustered last season in front of goal, improving on that record by two strikes. There is room for improvement in terms of his creativity, however. In 2019/20, the Jamaica international has just two assists to his name.

That is some way off the 20 Sancho has managed in Germany this campaign but there is a reason he is valued at £100m - he is simply world-class.

Bailey hasn't reached that stage yet but there are signs of a truly productive player emerging. 22 is still a particularly young age and with the world at his feet, £40m would surely be a snip for Ed Woodward and co.
