AC Milan are plotting a move for Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer, per Tuttosport via Milan News.

The Italian club are said to be interested in signing a centre-back in the summer transfer window, due to the likelihood of Mateo Musacchio leaving the San Siro this summer.

Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic is another target but the report names Ajer as a possible acquisition once the window reopens.

They view Ajer as a leader at Celtic despite his age – he’s 22 – and could subsequently attempt to extricate him from the Scottish giants.

Ajer has made 129 appearances for the club since his move from Norwegian club Start in 2016.

GIVEMESPORT’S Harry Sherlock says…

It will be very hard to convince Ajer that his future lies in Scotland this summer, should Milan formalise their interest.

Indeed, he has precious little left to win north of the border, as he is a three-time Scottish Premiership winner, a two-time Scottish Cup winner and a three-time Scottish League Cup winner.

At the age of 22, taking a leap of faith and attempting to prove himself in another league would be a genuinely bold move and Milan remain giants of European football.

Admittedly, they are currently languishing in seventh in Serie A but they are attempting to restructure their squad to return to their glory days.

Ajer could be a cornerstone of that project; his time at Celtic may well be coming to an end.
