The return of the Championship season is nearly upon us and Leeds United are ready to go.

Marcelo Bielsa's side currently sit at the top of the Championship and are seven points clear of the play-off spots with nine games to go.

While promotion looks probable at this point, there's still plenty of work to be done to get themselves over the line.

The squad are back at Thorp Arch as they gear up to face Cardiff City on the weekend of June 20, but there's plenty of working being put in off the field as they look ahead to next term.

Here's the latest news to come out of Elland Road in the last 24 hours.

Leeds United rule out Daniel Ayala move

Leeds United will not be making a move for Daniel Ayala over the summer, according to Leeds Live.

The defender is likely to be hot property over the coming weeks with his contract at Middlesbrough due to expire on June 30.

Ayala's days at the Riverside are all-but over after reports from the Daily Mail suggested that he's refusing to take part in their remaining fixtures.

This has, in part, been down to the ongoing speculation over his future, with Marcelo Bielsa's side being one of the key names mentioned as a future destination.

However it's now thought that those links are wide of the mark.

Paul Robinson doubts Jean-Kevin Augustin has future with Leeds United

Paul Robinson believes that Jean-Kevin Augustin may have blown his chance to establish himself as a Leeds United favourite.

The striker arrived on loan from RB Leipzig in the January transfer window and was tipped to make a big impression, but has been limited to just three cameo appearances.

According to The Athletic, Leeds United agreed to a mandatory purchase of the player should they secure promotion to the top flight - something which appears to be more than likely.

That move to bring Augustin to the club permanently will cost around £18million, but according to Robinson, the club will surely have doubts over whether he has earned a long-term deal with the club.

Speaking to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “Leeds fans wanted to see a match fit Augustin ready to play.

“You wanted to see Augustin give himself and Leeds fans the best opportunity so fans can see the best of him.

“He clearly was not match fit when he first came in and he has had a couple of loans that have been cancelled but he has got top pedigree.

“There has to be real doubt now over whether he will sign permanently. This was his opportunity. Leeds needed a player of that ilk and that calibre but he certainly was not ready when he came.

“On his substitute appearances, he looked nowhere near fit enough or sharp enough. If he is not fit between now and the end of the season it could be his opportunity gone.”

Leeds United plot move for Michael Rose

Leeds United are plotting a summer move for Michael Rose.

That's according to Football Insider who suggest the Coventry stalwart could be on the way out of the Midlands once the transfer window opens.

The Whites are in need of defensive reinforcements this summer with Ben White's loan spell coming to an end and Gaetano Berardi out of contract, and it appears as though Rose has been identified as their successor.

The outlet suggests that Leeds are keeping tabs on the 24-year-old with a view to bringing him to Elland Road just a year after he joined Coventry.

However, with just 12 months remaining on his current deal with the Sky Blues, he could leave for a cut-price deal with Mark Robins' men facing a battle to keep him.
