Aston Villa have placed an £80 million asking price on captain Jack Grealish ahead of the summer transfer window, per The Daily Mail.

The 24-year-old is trying to help the club avoid relegation to the Championship ahead of the resumption of festivities.

Villa sit 19th ahead of their game against Sheffield United on Wednesday, two points off safety.

And the club have not given up hope of keeping Grealish if they manage to avoid the drop, though they have also placed what could be seen as a prohibitive asking price on his head.

Manchester United are said to be interested in securing the signature of the attacking midfielder, though it remains to be seen if they can match Villa’s price.

The COVID-19 pandemic is likely to have impacted transfer fees and United’s budget, though they eventually reached £80m in their pursuit of Harry Maguire last summer.

GIVEMESPORT’S Harry Sherlock says…

This is sensible from Villa.

An asking price of £80m for their best player, who has scored nine goals and registered eight assists this term.

He is also their captain and, in a normal market, it would be seen as a fair price.

However, post COVID-19, it could well be a masterstroke and guarantee that he is still at Villa Park next season.

The ball is firmly in United’s court; it remains to be seen what they will do with it.
